Listen to a short homily I delivered in our church this week in observance of Holy Cross Day.
My talk is based on the Epistle for that day, 1 Corinthians 1:18-25, the famous passage in which Paul declares the cross of Christ to be “the foolishness of God, wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God, stronger than human strength.” Rather than trying to preach on the theology of the cross, I just told three stories. Two of the stories are about the crucifixes depicted below, and the other story features a new book by Alan Pritchard entitled Gord Smith: Canadian Sculptor, especially a work of his called “Amen: Fifteen Crosses,” also shown below.
